Cookie Policy
This page describes the cookies and similar storage technologies used on E-Gambia (egambia.com), what they do, and how you can control them. Read it together with the privacy policy.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies (local storage, session storage, pixels) work in related ways. They let a site remember preferences, measure how it is used, and — when third-party services are present — deliver personalised content, including advertising.
Categories of cookies used on this site
1. Strictly necessary
These keep the site usable. On E-Gambia they are used for things like remembering whether you have dismissed the cookie notice. They cannot be turned off through this site, but you can clear them through your browser at any time.
2. Analytics
We use Google Analytics (loaded via gtag.js as G-KF9GZ3VH27) to understand which pages are read, how visitors find the site, and where users drop off. Analytics cookies typically include identifiers such as _ga and _gid. Data is aggregated; we do not use Analytics to identify individuals.
3. Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements that fund the site. Google and its partners use cookies and similar identifiers to:
- Serve and measure ads
- Limit how often you see the same ad (frequency capping)
- Detect invalid traffic and fraud
- Personalise advertising based on your interests across sites and apps
Cookies in this category may include NID, IDE, and others set on Google domains. The full, current list is maintained by Google in its own documentation.
4. Mapping and fonts
The map page loads OpenStreetMap tiles via Leaflet. The site also loads Google Fonts (Archivo, Playfair Display). These services may set cookies of their own when their resources are requested.
How to control cookies
Browser controls
Every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies. Look for "cookies," "privacy," or "site settings" in the browser's preferences. You can usually:
- Block all cookies (this will break parts of many sites)
- Block third-party cookies only (a reasonable default)
- Clear cookies on close
- Send a "Global Privacy Control" or "Do Not Track" signal
Opt out of personalised advertising
To control or opt out of personalised advertising, use one or more of these settings:
- Google Ads Settings — manage personalised ads from Google
- DAA AdChoices (US) — opt out of multiple advertisers at once
- Your Online Choices (EU/UK) — opt out of EDAA participating advertisers
- Google's "How Google uses cookies in advertising" — background and additional controls
Opting out reduces the personalisation of ads. It does not remove ads themselves; advertising will still appear on supported pages.
Mobile devices
On mobile devices, you can also control advertising IDs through your operating system: "Reset Advertising Identifier" and "Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS, or "Delete advertising ID" on Android.
Consent in regulated regions
Where local law requires explicit consent for non-essential cookies — for example in the EU/EEA, the UK, and similar jurisdictions — analytics and advertising cookies are loaded only after consent has been given through the site's notice or through your browser's privacy controls. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing the relevant cookies and revisiting the site.
Updates to this policy
This page is updated when the cookies or services used on the site change. The "last reviewed" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
