About
About E-Gambia
E-Gambia is an independent information portal about The Gambia. The site brings general background, practical references, and links to authoritative sources together in one place, written for travelers, investors, students, and curious readers.
Who this site is for
The pages on this site are written for three groups of readers in particular. The first is travelers planning a visit and looking for plain-English answers about seasons, transport, money, language, and how to navigate first contact with the country. The second is entrepreneurs, investors, and researchers who want a balanced starting point on the institutional landscape, the economy, and the sectors that come up most often in national plans. The third is anyone in the diaspora, in academia, or in journalism who wants a country-level reference they can read in a single sitting.
None of these audiences are well served by sales-heavy travel content or by promotional investment material. We try to be neutral, general, and honest about what we do and do not know.
What the site covers
The current scope is deliberately narrow. The site covers travel planning, culture and heritage, investment context, public-service references, and the geography of the country. It does not cover real-time news, current rates, ticket bookings, opening-hours schedules, or live availability — those belong to the institutions and operators that actually run them, and they change too quickly to track responsibly here.
Where a procedure or fact is time-sensitive, the site will point readers toward the institution that owns it rather than copy a number that will rot. Where a topic is general — geography, history, sector context — we write at length.
Editorial approach
Pages are written from publicly available sources, including national strategy documents, statements from public institutions, mainstream travel and reference literature, and general background reading. We avoid invented quotes, statistics, and biographies. Where a number could be misread as authoritative if isolated, we either link to the source or describe the underlying pattern in words.
Each substantive page carries a "last reviewed" date. A site-wide review takes place at least once a year, and individual pages are revised whenever a reader points out something that has changed. Material corrections are noted in the site updates log.
What we will not do
- We do not invent people. There are no fabricated team members, founders, or quoted experts on this site.
- We do not invent institutions or partnerships. The site is not affiliated with the Government of The Gambia, GIEPA, the Gambia Tourism Board, or any other public body.
- We do not publish testimonials.
- We do not publish sponsored content disguised as editorial.
- We do not give legal, medical, financial, or visa advice. Pages are general orientations, not professional advice.
Independence and funding
E-Gambia is an independent project. It is supported by display advertising, including ads served through Google AdSense, and by readers who share the site. Advertising does not influence what we write or what we recommend reading next. Where third-party services are used, they are described on the cookies page.
